Jen Morris

Patient Advocate, Melbourne, Vic

Jen Morris is a healthcare consumer advocate, patient safety professional and healthcare sector board member. She is a member of many advisory and decision-making bodies within health services, professional organisations, educational institutions, regulatory bodies and government. Jen is also a non-executive director of NPS MedicineWise, a member of the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, and a member of the Safer Care Victoria Academy. She is a member of the Victorian Clinical Council, and holds consumer representative positions with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association and the Victorian Health Complaints Commissioner.  Previously, Jen was a researcher within the Law and Public Health Unit at the School of Population and Global Health at the University of Melbourne, with a focus on healthcare regulation and governance.

Helen Dowling

Senior Project Officer, eHealth and Medication Safety, Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, Sydney NSW

Mrs Dowling is a Registered Pharmacist and has expertise in hospital pharmacy; practitioner and pharmacy premises regulation; medication safety; eHealth and digital systems; health-related policy and standards development; quality improvement and change management; and corporate leadership and management. Mrs Dowling is a Fellow of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA), held the position of SHPA President from 1999 to 2002, and was awarded the SHPA Medal of Merit in 2005.

Mrs Dowling is currently engaged as a Senior Project Officer at the Australian Commission on Safety & Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) since 2015. From 2016 to 2017 Mrs Dowling was employed as a Project Manager for 12 months to lead the Pharmacy Services Redesign at Royal North Shore Hospital. Mrs Dowling previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer for SHPA from 2012 to 2015 and also held the position of Director of Pharmacy Services for Hunter New England (HNE) Local Health Network, from 2008 to 2012.

Mrs Dowling has been a member of the Council of the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) as the Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) (2001-2018) and an ACHS Board member from 2008 to 2018. Ms Dowling is an ACHS accreditation assessor (since 2008) and has conducted 14 assessment surveys, the majority of which have been in public hospitals, including hospital networks. Mrs Dowling has held numerous additional committee/advisory appointments including:

  • ACSQHC Clinical Care Standards Advisory Group (2013-2016)
  • Australian Digital Health Agency Medicines Safety Programme Steering Group from January 2017
  • ACHS Standards Committee (2003 to current), and held the position of Chair (2007-2012)
  • Pharmacy Board of Australia Registration and Examinations Committee (2011-2017)
  • Pharmacy Board of NSW (Academic Ministerial appointment) (2006-2010)
  • Pharmacy Council of NSW holding the position of President (2010-2015)

From 2010 to 2015, Mrs Dowling was inaugural President of the Pharmacy Council of NSW leading the transformation from the previous Pharmacy Board of NSW with the introduction of the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for health practitioners. Mrs Dowling also held an academic appointment (Conjoint Senior Lecturer) at the University of Newcastle from 2012 to 2018.

James Grant

Pharmacy Lead for Digital Health, Clinical Excellence Queensland, Brisbane, Qld

James has been working in Health Informatics and Electronic Medication Management since 2015, starting as the lead pharmacist for the PA Hospital’s EMM exemplar project then moving into Statewide roles to improve Queensland Health’s digital medication ecosystem. Queensland Health’s integrated electronic medical record (ieMR) is a ‘full stack’ electronic health record and includes other digital solutions such as pathology and nursing cares, as well as complex medications such as fluids and narrow therapeutic index drugs like warfarin and IV heparin. As Chair of the SHPA EMM speciality practice stream leadership committee and moderator for several online EMM forums, he continues to share and collaborate in the digital health space, aiming to reduce duplicate effort and re-learning lessons for those in the EMM space. 

Patrick Lam

Assistant Deputy Director of Pharmacy – Casey Hospital, Cranbourne Centre and Community Services, Monash Health, Melbourne, Vic

Patrick is the Assistant Deputy Director of Pharmacy for Casey Hospital, Cranbourne Centre and Community Services at Monash Health. Prior to his current role, he was the Dispensary and Operations Team Leader at Casey Hospital and Chair of the Monash Health Pharmacy’s Dispensary Services Committee. Patrick is also the Chair of the SHPA Dispensing and Distribution Specialty Practice Leadership Committee, with his areas of interests being in improving patient experience, consumer health literacy and medication adherence.

Daniel O’Brien

Medication Strategy Pharmacist, The Royal Melbourne Hospital – City Campus, Melbourne Health, Melbourne, Vic

Daniel works as the Medication Strategy Pharmacist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, who implemented electronic medication management with Epic in ED in 2019 and will expand to all areas in May 2020. In his role, Daniel utilises his informatics and analytics experience  as the lead for the development and delivery of sustainable and effective medication strategies including management, reporting and procurement of pharmaceuticals. Daniel was also a part of the senior group of informaticians who designed and implemented the Cerner-based electronic medications management system for Alfred Health in 2018. He aims to leverage his broad clinical and informatics experience and organizational knowledge to ensure solutions both enhance patient care and offer an optimal experience for end user clinicians.

Joanne Wilson

Medication Systems Support Pharmacist, Digital Solutions Division, ACT Health Directorate, ACT

Joanne is currently the Medication Systems Support Pharmacist for Digital Solutions Division – ACT Health Directorate.  Joanne continues to work towards achieving positive care benefits through the safe use of clinical information systems.  Since 2011, Joanne has worked as the Clinical Information Systems Pharmacist at Canberra Hospital where she has enjoyed the opportunity to lead or contribute towards the design and implementation of a variety of eMed initiatives e.g. EMM, automated dispensing and pharmacy automation including optical checking of medications.  Joanne is also an experienced clinical pharmacist, working in a variety of clinical and education roles since 2003.  Joanne is a previous member of national committees such as the SHPA EMM Leadership Committee and Pharmacists Digital Health Leaders Network.
